About Bioengineering Department

The Bioengineering department (BIOE), located in Building 7, is a newly established department at KFUPM. It was established in September 2020 after restructuring of the Life Sciences Department. The BIOE department offers a four-year Bachelor of Science program in Bioengineering (BS-BIOE), which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Also, the BIOE department offers graduate-level programs, (1) Master of Science in Life Sciences (MS-LS, started in Sep 2015), (2) Professional Master of Bioengineering (MX-BIOE, started in Sep 2020), (3) Master of Science in Life Sciences (MS-BIOE, started in Sep 2024). In addition, a new PhD in Bioengineering (PhD-BIOE) is under development and to start by Jan 2025, details will be available soon.

The BIOE department is staffed by 13 full-time faculty members (10 Professorial-rank, 1 Lecturer, 2 Graduate Assistants), and 6 full-time staff members (5 Lab Technicians, and 1 Admin Assistant), to support all activities related to teaching and research. Due to the nature of this program, our faculty members have diverse expertise like: microbiology, physiology, biochemistry, biomaterial, biomedical, and biomechanics. The BIOE department is a rapidly expanding and is helping KFUPM to make a major impact in the bio industry.

Vision

The aim of the department is to provide students with an interdisciplinary education and skills to meet the growing demands in the field of bioengineering.

Mission

The mission of the bioengineering department is to create a vibrant environment for innovation and excellence in teaching and research. In addition, to provide a digital foundation for programs to drive forward knowledge and to establish strategic collaborations with entities in research, industry and business.
