The Bioengineering Department at KFUPM is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of two student teams at the NBES 2025 Hackathon, where they demonstrated creativity, innovation, and a strong commitment to advancing healthcare solutions.
Team: Abdullah Amro Alomran, Omar Buges, and colleagues
Track: Enhancing the Use of Defibrillators in Prehospital Emergencies
Project: SCEDG (Saudi Connected Defibrillator Gateway)
The team developed a vendor-neutral, four-layer system designed to enable real-time and secure transmission of defibrillator data to hospitals. The solution supports faster, AI-driven clinical decision-making during cardiac emergencies, improves emergency coordination, and provides scalability across healthcare systems and devices.
Team: Ola Abdelgadir, Jood Abdulrahman, Raha Alkhaled, and Marym Osman
Focus: Stroke prediction and prevention using wearable technologies
The team developed a dual-function wearable device capable of continuously monitoring atrial fibrillation and blood coagulation biomarkers. The system sends real-time alerts to hospitals and family members, promoting a shift from reactive healthcare toward preventive care. The solution also aligns with national digital health initiatives and supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives.
These achievements reflect the Bioengineering Department’s commitment to fostering innovation and empowering students to develop impactful technologies that address real-world healthcare challenges.
We extend our sincere congratulations to all participating students and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.
