4th Edition of Bioengineering Day!

The Bioengineering Day is an annual event to transferring knowledge, celebrating innovation, showcasing talent, and reflecting on the growing role of the Bioengineering in our daily lives. By bringing academia and industry together through this annual event, the Bioengineering Department aims to align and bridge education with real-world challenges and align academic outcomes with future market needs. This meaningful integration between academia and industry drives innovation, creates real opportunities, and contributes to lasting national advancement. Such initiatives stand at the heart of Saudi Vision 2030 which emphasizes building a skilled generation capable of contributing effectively to a strong and sustainable Saudi economy.

On January 19th, 2026, the Bioengineering Department successfully hosted its 4th Bioengineering Day, bringing together students, faculty, and Industry Advisory Committee members to explore recent developments and opportunities in the field of bioengineering. The event featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, student presentations, an exhibition, and networking sessions, fostering collaboration between academia and industry.

The day began with by opening remarks by Dr. Yahya Al-Muallem,Director, Bioengineering Program at King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC), delivered the opening keynote, “Bioengineers as Entrepreneurs: Driving the Kingdom’s Innovation Economy,” inspiring attendees with insights into the role of bioengineering in Saudi Arabia’s growing innovation landscape.

A panel discussion on the Future of Bioengineering in Saudi Arabia followed, featuring Dr. Monther Al-Hadmoosh, Chairman of Bioinformatics at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC); Dr. Majd Abdulghani, Genomics Lead at Lean, PIF Company; Dr. Majed Al-Ghoribi, Director of the Biotechnology Sector at the General Authority for Defense Development (GADD); and Mr. Nabil Iweir, Chief Business Officer at MediServ. The discussion was moderated by the KFUPM-BIOE team, led by Dr. Ahmed Dalaq. The panel explored emerging trends, industrial opportunities, and the growing impact of bioengineering across sectors.

An Agenda Item "Student Sharing Session" where students shared their experiences through presentations highlighting undergraduate research, exchange programs, summer training, internship experiences, and iGEM 2026 achievements. This segment provided valuable insights into the student journey and contributions to the bioengineering community.

The event concluded with an exhibition, where the department hosted the IRC for Biosystems and Machines and a student expo, featuring projects from the Bioinstrumentation course with support from the Intellectual and Electronics Sports Club. Attendees also engaged with industry partners, including Tamer Group and Nestlé. The day ended with a dedicated IAC program meeting with BIOE faculty members to discuss aligning the academic curriculum with industry needs.
